Bank Gambler LOST 1.4 BILLION

I was reading news articles about the recession  and found about a man who worked for the bank called UBS.  He lost £1.4 Billion .

His name is Kweku Adoboli  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-20338042

After reading about this article , I decided to draw illustrations and make typography relevant to this story for magazine layout practice and developing my skills  for graphic design.

Here is my illustration. The man was a gambler. Therefore, I decided to produce a slot-machine which is own by the bank. Because  the banks and the Adoboli gambled with our money.

Gameover – Adoboli lost the money before the recession – he could have been one of the causes.

I did not think that the illustration was exiting and interesting . This is because its was quite plain and boring . I decided to make a typography. using Money as a subject. My first plan was to get my 1 and 2 penny jar and produce the fonts out of that, butt his hand been done already.

So I decided to get a £10 note and scan it. I then looked at the note and found all 26 letters within the note. Some letters where difficult to find. – I tried not to use the letters on the note because that would have been boring.

I Managed to find all 26 letters within a £10 note. Some where more difficult then others.

My Favorite letters are the C (queens hair) , the ‘E’ from the Queens Crown and the ‘D’ , ‘P’ , ‘Q’ which are from the top , with all the curly bits are.

Some letters where very difficult yo find such as the  ‘U’ and the ‘Y’ .

I went on to use this font for my magazine covers.

Simple Typography !

I decided to set my self a challenge: To create  Simple but interesting fonts using only Adobe Photoshop and i could take longer then 30 minuets for each Set.

The Top set of Fonts- are the more successful fonts (in my opinion) I tried to make all the fonts unique and interesting.

For most of the Fonts I used the blending options and some of the Filters.

My First Typography

I decided to create ‘fonts’ using Adobe Photoshop because there are endless possibilities and it can  be done so much easily then hand-drawing and / or taking photographs to produce Typography ( which I did before) .

For my first Photoshop Font ,  I made a Fiery text. Which was much more simple then it looks.  I first picked a text ( I used Trebuchet)  I gave the font layers – in the middle was dark red , then a light yellow and more red on top of that. I blurred parts of each letter. I then Liquidfied  each letter to make it wavy like fire. After this was complete I  found an image of fire and put it on top of the text and rubbed the unimportant areas.

The Bottom font (fire) was the original.
